It’s not actually wrong, but it may be temporarily outdated or easily misunderstood.

Another important point to consider: CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko calculate market cap using the circulating supply, not total supply.

This is standard policy for all listed projects.

That means:

Only unlocked and publicly tradable tokens are included

Tokens that are still locked, vested, or under project control (treasury, team, ecosystem wallets) are excluded from the market cap calculation

e.g. If a token has 3 billion in total supply, but only 900 million are currently in circulation,

the market cap is based on 900 million × token price, not the full 3 billion.
